About Bret

Who I Am

I’m really nobody special or important. I’m not a dot-com millionaire, a famous celebrity, a high-powered CEO or even a brilliant investor. I’m just a regular guy who gets up every morning and goes to work. By trade, I’m an IT Manager for a Medical Device company. On a good day, I have the greatest job in the world. On a bad day, my job can become a stress-filled nightmare. Nevertheless, I love the work I do.

I’m also a family man. I have a wife of 18 years, a son in college and a daughter in high school. We have a big extended family and we spend a lot of time together, with family vacations and activities. I live near the beach, in San Clemente, California.

What I’m Like

For a computer guy, I’m not much of a nerd. I don’t have the latest gadgets, nor do I associate with a bunch of geeks. I love technology and I enjoy the many challenges and opportunities that it presents. But, I don’t allow it to define my lifestyle.

I’m more of an athletic surfer-type that loves the outdoors and action sports. I like to ride motorcycles and mountain bikes. I like to hunt and fish. I also surf and ride a JetSki. I love speed and motion, but I’m not quite an adrenaline junkie.

Why I Blog

I became interested in Personal Finance at age 19. I read a wonderful book called “The Richest Man in Babylon” and it changed my life. The real epiphany for me, was that investing and personal finance are really quite simple. You just pick a monthly amount and start investing. Sure, there are some complex subjects and considerations. But, it’s not as difficult as financial planners want you to believe. Anyone can do it. And, everyone should.

Most important to me, is that many Americans aren’t saving or investing for their futures. They are often mired in debt and struggling with their finances. I would like to do something to help. I would like to share wealth concepts from the books I have read. I would like to share the great advice from people who have helped me. And, I would like to share experiences with others, who are interested in Personal Finance.
